For many of us who were too young to see/hear it first time this was our entry into the world of jazz funk. I can remember being in Manchester in 1991/92 being forced to watch a Bryan Adams concert at Maine Road and I had just bought this from a local shop along with some other Acid Jazz/Soul revival kind of stuff... Nothing could prepare me for hearing Lonnie Liston Smith, Johnny Hammond, John Klemmer and Eddie Henderson. Even 27 years later (!!!!) I remember if all so clearly... without a doubt this compilation, Fusion Phew! and Gilles Peterson's Talkin Jazz Vol 1 were the cornerstones of my appreciation for this music and I've never looked back since...
